Hi. Question. I have a fluorescent light fixture. This fixture has two T8 fluorescent tubes and one ballast. It has worked good for maybe about
22 years and this past year, every 4 or 5 weeks it will blink or flicker/flash
very eratically(almost like a strobe light, but not as bright). Then about 5 weeks, it will do the same thing. It is in the home office, used about 5 hours
or less a day mostly, and there are 4 of them in the room, all seperated, not
in any linked rows. It will do this flash constant and then try to remain constant on, but then keep blinking. It probably does this blink stage for
less than 1 minute. What is causing this? Also, one time, it was on for about
2 hours and then turned completely off for about 3-5 min. Why did it do this?
Is it the ballast? I didn't know T8's were produced back then?.
It says (2) T8 bulbs to be used. It was bought in 85' with free bulbs included
(those are the two bulbs that are still in that fixture today) Can those bulbs
be dying? or is it the ballast? All 4 fixtures were bought then because there
is one of the boxes still in the attic at this time. It also says electronic ballast.
Please help thanks.....

22 years?! It is definitely on borrowed time. It will probably require a ballast and bulb change to keep it going for another 22.
