Hi, I was thinking of installing suspended ceiling in our basement.
Then I saw the price for the T-Bars and ceiling panels, and thought,
it wasn't worth it. The ceiling would look good if it was cheap, and
wouldn't look good if it was expensive, because I wouldn't be happy
with the price that I had spent on it. So then i thought of spraying
or painting the joistings of the ceiling. Then i thought, how about just
changing or installing some different lighting.
I am thinking of installing some lighting in an 11Wx21L space in which
will function as a home theater/movie room sometimes and then more
of a general purpose space sometimes. I want some lighting in which
I will be able to change/flip a switch and have different lighting.
What would anyone suggest for lighting in my space?(I have light-colored
beams) I was thinking of recessed lighting, and then track lighting..
and thinking of maybe mixing both together? I also have 8 fluorescent
fixtures already installed above/in between the beams/joists. So they are
maybe classified as recessed inside the beams but I know they are just
cheap fluorescent fixtures that i had up there a little while ago.
Would you get a 6-pk. of incandescent recessed cans, 2 track lights w/
at least 3 or 4 lights attached to the track, and keep at least 3 or 4 of
the fluorescent tubed fixtures and have them arranged so they are pretty
well spaced throughtout the area?
Would you also arrange the canned lights in 2 rows of 3 or would you just
randomly scatter the mpretty evenly throughout the space?
How many switches would you have installed? 1st switch(dimmer): recessed.
2nd switch: fluorescent fixtures. 3rd switch(dimmer): track light(s). 4th switch:(on/off operation of controlling projector)? Should i leave an extra 5th
switch for maybe an extra ceiling light or at least a ceiling fan without a light)?
Thank you so much if you have any suggestions, etc.

Install either or track/cans. I prefer track, as it is a bit more flexible, but cans are more hidden.
For switching, one for cans, one for flourescents, if you will keep them, and other (or more) for accent lighting. If you are going to have a fan plan for that. The projector will be controlled from its electronics. You don't want it on a switch.

Don't exceed the allowable cable content of your switch box. You may have to go to two or more boxes in order to facilitate all the switches you want.

My projector either goes 1)projection lamp on/off, or 2)Master control of the
whole projector on/off. It has 2 options and it is attached to my ceiling. So I
can run the cord(s) across my ceiling and down to the wall like a normal wall
switch(standard appliance/light switch, matching to the others)
I have to agree, how much i like the look of recessed cans now, I still like the
track light idea. I like that they come in different track styles, some are even
flex-tracks. But, I don't mind the "old-school" baffled bullet cylinder tracks.
Can someone tell me about what kind of recessed cans i would need to look at or buy? I have some joists without insulation and i can take more insulation
out if necessary in case insulation catches fire. I don't know anything about
recessed cans, but know more about track lighting. Would i need IC rated or
Non-IC rated, going in between basement joists and probably thinking of
putting the cans built in to panels which i will screw in to the ceiling. So, would you get remodel type w/ the 4 clips for this? or would you get a new
construction model? Do they make like 6-pks. with trims/and baffles included?
can someone please help me?
Also, what would an average price be for a standard track light? thankyou
bye.
