I have a GE gas dryer, model EGD3000B0WW. The blower and clamp are slipping forward on the motor shaft so that the blower is rubbing against the dryer base and making considerable noise.
I have lossend the clamp and pushed the blower and clamp back on the motor shaft. The assembly feels secure when tested by hand but, the blower starts making noise within a few seconds after the dryer is turned on.
I need help in determining:
1. Do I need to replace the blower, the clamp or both?
2. Or, could something else need to be replaced?
3. What would cause the blower/clamp to suddenly become so loose?
I would appreciate any advise. I want to make sure that I fix/replace the right part(s) and not waste time or money.

Hello Woodly. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Replace both the plastic blower squirrel cage and the clamp. The hole in the center of the blower that slips over the motors shaft either expanded from the heat over time (normal wear) or the hole is out of round, etc.
As a doityourself temporary repair, rap a piece of electrical tape over the motors shaft compensate for the larger diameter of the fan blower cage. This is not a permanent repair. Only a temp. Be sure the blower fan housing is not cracked.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs or services. Always check for gas leaks whenever moving the appliance and/or a service or repair includes any connection of a gas part.
