Had the Culligan guy out today for service since my unit was showing the "CS" code. Well, the seals went and need replacement and the electronics got soaked from the above. They said they could repair/replace and should be OK but they said my resin was nearly "gone" due to chlorine comtamination. Resin was yellow instead of normal black.
Unit was installed new in 1998 so it lasted only 8+ years which is disappointing to me. They said the chlorine has become a problem in my area due to significant developemnt (fastest growing township in PA) and water company adding greater amounts of chlorine to keep system safe.
They are suggesting a new unit with an upstream Chlorine filter.
Is this normall life for these things or am I getting a "sales job"
Thanks
Ken

Chlorine dramatically reduces resin life. quality resins today are "cross-linked" and resist chlorine to a point.
What they tell you is easy to prove or disprove, get your water tested for chlorine content. While you're at it a complete water test isn't a bad idea if your water has changed.
Based on the test results we can speak intelligently about your water's problems..
