I recently bought a new tv and situated it on my new light maple bedroom dresser. I picked up the tv the other day and noticed 4 dark spots on the dresser. I can only guess they were from the felt pads on the feet of the tv. I don't know if there was some sort of oil in the fabric of the pads..or a reaction between my furniture polish and the felt? Maybe too much polish resulted in moisture? I don't recall spilling anything on the dresser, I don't think it's from water, exactly... Is there anyway to remove these spots?? I've looked at other threads that mentioned oxalic acid but I was hoping to not go to those extremes...help!

CityGirl,
Oxalic Acid is to be used on raw wood to lift the stains. On finished wood it will do nothing except damage the finish further.
You indicated the bottom of the TV has felt pads on the legs. The legs should have rubber tips on them. The felt is too absorbative to be on the legs.
The spots on your furniture could very well be from something the pads absorbed and transfered to your finish.
Discolored finished is one of the most difficult repairs on furniture. Most of the time people have said they wish they'd left the stain alone.
If the stain is going to be covered with the TV or something else, I suggest that you live with 'em. If it's something you've just got to do something about them, contact a couple of furniture retailers (Obviously the better quality ones!!) and ask them to refer you to their touchup specialist.
I did furniture restoration for decades and I originally started out doing finish repair for several places. Frankly, I wouldn't care to attack the job. Hopefully the touch up person you find will feel differently.
Good Luck,
CD
