I have a horizontally mounted furnace. There is about two feet of duct between the furnace and the a/c coil on the supply side. Otherwise, the supply side ductwork is too small (it tapers very quickly after the coil) to place a humidifier on the supply side.

Can i put a fan-powered unit between the furnace and the A/C coil (the area marked by the question marks above)? My other choice would seem to be to put a bypass unit on the return side. The supply side ductwork beyond the coil IS large enough to accomodate the bypass duct.

You could put in that area how much room do you have, but the big question, where is this unit at? Attic?

Essentially the unit is in a basement, although the distance from the concrete floor to the floor joists is only about five feet. Heated, clean, dry, all concrete, well lit, easily accessible from within the house by stairs.
The house is on a lake in a flood plain. Apparently the builder's answer to avoiding the purchase of flood insurance when he rebuilt the house was to raise it up above the original concrete slab about five feet.

Ok, you are safe to use the powered unit on this set up then.
