I am in the process of painting the horsehair plaster walls in a recently purchased home. I have removed all of the old wallpaper, skimcoated and primed the walls with Kilz Original Oil Base Primer/Sealer. Will there be any problems if I apply a latex paint over the walls that have been primed with the oil base Kilz. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you sure the Kilz is oil base?? About all I've seen is a shellac base with white pigment.

At either rate, because it is a sealer topcoat of latex paint are just fine. Sealers penetrate the surface and dry quickly. If you'll notice, after one coat of sealer(which is all you need!), it appears somewhat transparent. It'd be a good Idea to scuff the sealer with 150 to 220 grit sandpaper before painting.

Kilz does produce an oil base interior product.Latex over it is fine.

I'm not aware of any Kilz brand pigmented shellac, they do make both latex and oil primer. All 3 types of primer are suitable for top coating with latex. Solvent based primer may slow down the drying time of the latex.

2nd that. Masterchem doesn't make a Pigmented Shellac. It the BIN/Zinnser corp that makes white pigmented shellac.

Kilz is either oil base/ waterbase, or oilbase with soap and water cleanup.

Anyway, Latex over the oil kilz will be fine. Incidently the information you are seeking is on the back of the can.
