Painting - Painting HardiPlank - Flat? Satin? Eggshell?

Please help.... I am getting conflicting information here and I'm not sure which way to go...

We have brand new Hardi Plank siding on our house and the next step is to have it painted. We are using Sherwin Williams Duration "life-time" paint, color - Dorian Gray (any opinion on our color choice are welcome as well, because we have no idea what it will look like on the house vs. on the color wheel, especially since part of our house has brick siding -will it look good next to the reddish brick?).

One painter told me I should use Flat because it hides imperfections and seams etc... better, and another told me Satin because it is more durable and will wear better.

I guess I am just looking for some more opinions. We just want our paint job to have the best possible apearance for the longest time we can. Any and all opinions would be appreciated!!

SWP's duration is a good choice for a long lasting paint job.

There is merit to both painter's advice. Flat does help to hide minor imperfections, satin will repel moisture and dirt better than flat. In the end it boils down to personal prefference.

Did I do a good job of not directly giving you an answer :D hope this little bit of info can help you decide which is best for you.

You gotta ask yourself, seriously, how often are you going to go out and "wash the house"? Unless we are talking front door, exterior washabilty is really for marketing.

Get what you like. Flat does hide imperfections more, and is more forgiving for the painter.

Satin may show more waves in your wall, if it is a long run in the light.

But unless you suffer dive bombing geese, or other "dirty" issues, washability is not really an issue (at least for me)
