Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Tiller dies under load

I have an old montgamery ward tiller that I got running finally,It will run for a minute under load,then it dies.when it's not engaged it runs fine,help me, my weeds are high.

Since it runs for more than an instant under load I'd say you have a fuel starvation issue and if a simple carburetor adjustment doesn't do the trick then you may need to remove the carburetor and soak and recondition it. Post back with all ID numbers (engine and chassis) so we can see specifically what you have for equipment, we'd like to know if you have an adjustable carburetor or not.

The model # 1580 i,serial #0329f2 335.I took the carb off and cleaned it up,the gas pick-up filter was a little clogged,I cleaned it.Put it back together,and it ran alot better.Maybe a rebuilt kit.There is only one adjustment screw,looks like air,not sure Any ideas???

ss396350hp, first let me appologize. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. You will have only one fuel related carburetor adjustment and this will be on the right side of the carb (as you're looking at the carb from the choke end) and this should be set, initially, at one and three-quarters turn out from seated. Gently turn this needle in until bottomed and then back out 1 3/4 turns. Start here and report back with the outcome.
