last weekend I heard an unusual noise from lower back of refrigerator, sidebyside <5 years old. the condenser was draped in whatever it is that accumulates over time, so unplugged frig and cleaned condenser and rest of that compartment, thoroughly.
returned power to the frig and it worked w/o that sound (as best that I know not being by its side 24/7) for 5 days, until yesterday no cooling issues.
it is my impression that the sound coming from the compressor and that the sound being the compressor not starting for whatever reason, so I experimented over the past 24 hours and found that if it is left off (unplugged) for say ~30 minutes and the power restored, the compressor starts and sounds normal with the expected cooling. however, after say 2-3 hours I hear the compressor not starting and promptly unplug.
my questions:
1. what is going-on to explain what I just described?
2. could this be a failing starter?
3. a failing compressor? if so, pleae explain why it would work as normal for hours at a time before shutting off.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and the sooner the better.
