Has anyone used this. I want to add a blackboard to my laundry room door. It is hollow wood door with several coats of paint, the last being red latex. Can I just apply this over the existing?
How does this paint surface stand up? I have also seen on decorator show where they first used metal paint to make it magnetic, then blackboard paint. With all that painting would I better off to just buy a premade board?

let me just say this: chalkboards are MESSY! have you ever had one? i bought my son an easle that had a chalkboard on one side and a dry erase board on the other. it wasn't long before i took all the chalk away! every time you write on it, and especially when you erase, chalk goes everywhere! i couldn't believe the amount of chalk dust on his bedroom curtains and on the carpeted floor directly underneath the thing. i know the blackboards are neat looking & i've seen those same decorating shows where they use that paint in kitchens, but i just cringe when i see them! i would highly recommend you go the route of the dry erase board, if you really want a surface to write on. that said, if you really want the chalk board, i would suggest the separate store bought variety, so in case you eventually agree with me that they're too messy, you can easily remove it and/or replace it with either a dry erase board or a magnetic board, or nothing, and not have to worry about repainting again!

my 2¢. your decision. :)

Hello,
"Blackboard" paint is simply a repackage of flat black enamel.
It holds up fine, but does accumulate a lot of dust.

I'll second the idea of the dry erase board..

I painted a "blackboard" on the wall for my kids years ago.
It was as described above - a "constant mess".
