I recently bought a new Sears Kenmore gas dryer (Whirlpool, I guess) and the flame make a noise like too much air is causing a partial flameout. It does heat, but takes 2-3 times more time to dry a load than any of our several previous Sears dryers.
I have checked the gas valve (fully open, never a problem before), and the vent, with both with the aluminum flex attached and not attached. Airflow through the outside vent opening seems good and hot.
Had Sears tech out to address problem and he said the dryer is operating fine. I don't buy it, any ideas? Could this be a result of some energy conservation design?

Hello dfb2. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Two separate conditions between dry times and noise. Neither related.
Let's take one at a time.
Dry times will vary based upon incoming air temp into the burner. Moisture levels in what is being dried and burner BTU ratings. Most, if not all, dryers are 18,000 to 22,000 btu's. Each factor causes the variations in dry times. As long as the clothing articles or towels, or any other washed items put into the dryer come out dried, at the end of the cycle, machine is working properly.
Burner noise heard may simply be normal or the burner can be getting slightly to much air through the air shutter. Fully opened, the shutter just allows slightly more air to mix with the fuel. Often creates a slight wind blowing type sound. Which is acceptable to some service techs.
To some techs no so. What they often do is close the sir shutter on the burner tube not more then 1/3 closed. Meaning at least 2/3rds opened. Burner flame is not to burn any yellow, except maybe just a tiny amount on the tip of the flame.
If the machine is new and under warranty, suggestion and recommendation is to not make any changes nor adjustments to it. Doing so can void the warranty and or cause unforeseen problems. Leave it as is, in my opinion, based upon the fact it was checked by a service tech.
