My two year old Delta single lever bath tub faucet won't open to let water out. The lever itself will turn to the ON position but only a trace of water will trickle out. Water is running at all other sink/tub/toilet locations in the house so this is an isolated problem. Can anyone suppose what is going on and what it will take to fix this?

Many thanks in advance.

Can you turn the handle to create a cold water trickle and then an equally volume hot water trickle? And what do you call a trickle? The reason I ask these questions is trying to see if handle somehow not engaging right, anymore.

trickle meaning slightly more than dripping water...just slightly. like steady drips that sometimes run together.

Hmmmm. At that small amount, you might not even be able to tell if the water (drips) are warm? Are you pretty sure the handle feels all secure and everything? If so, it sounds like time to operate. It sounds like a passageway inside the mixer is plugged.

Oh. What kind of diverter set-up do you have? The issue could be right there.

if it's plugged it would strange because it worked only fine only two days ago. as for diverter i have the kind where you pull the knob up on the tub faucet and then the water switches to the shower head.

Do you have one of those push button things on your shower arm that allows yo to turn on and off the shower spray up by the shower head?

If you do, and that was in the off position, AND your tubspout diverter was messed up, then you could have the problem you describe.

Or you could have something in your mixer valve or in the pipe between the mixer valve and tub spout.

You better take off your tub spout and try running the water without the tub spout on to see what happens. As long as the mixer valve is off, you can can remove the tub spout without getting sprayed.

When you pull up on the diverter, I presume almost nothing comes out of the shower head either, right?

Hi, Is The valve a tempture control valve? I think the face plate has red and blue lines on it. If it is a temp valve the balancing spool could be plugged up. That would cause the problem you are having. I have fooled with those valves I think if you stop the flow of cold water the valve will shut down but if you stop the hot you still will get cold water. Take off the face plate, the balancing spool is about 3/4 inch diameter and has a screwdriver slot in it. Shut off the water annd remove the spool it should rattle if its ok, if it doesn't then soak it in vinger water.
