In our continuing kitchen faucet saga...........We've never had a leak under our kitchen sink until we started replacing the faucet! Now, the faucet is in (although wobbly-see my other post about that please) and there is a leak where the PVC pipe runs into the garbage disposer. My husband thought maybe the PVC was not long enough so he replaced it, but it still leaks where the PVC and the garbage disposer connect.
Should there be some type of plumbing cement (probably wrong word for it :( ) there?
Thanks for your help!

There should be a rubber washer seal at the outlet pipe held in place with a metal flange. On the inlet from the dishwasher, the dishwasher hose should be attached to the spout via a worm gear clamp. If it is a new disposer and you are just hooking it up, be sure to knock out the plug that occludes the dishwasher spout, so it will drain into it. Other than that, not sure where your leak could be coming from.

You know, I have always thought something was backwards under our sink. When we bought this house I told my husband that I thought the disposer should be on the right side of the sink closest to the dishwashwer, but it's not. Every other house we have lived in had the disposer closest to the dishwasher.
Is this part of our problem?

Not if the dishwasher hose is long enough to reach the disposer. Since the dishwasher tube and the exit tube are on opposite sides of the disposer, yes, I usually install them where the discharge line is in the middle, facing the other sink, and the dishwasher inlet tube, of course, facing the dishwasher. Sometimes you have to live with the cards you are dealt, and extend a hose.

This is Donna's husband, Mr. Fix-it extraordinaire.
The piece of pvc pipe leading from the disposal is simply that, a straight length of pvc pipe cut to fit. Nothing else. It extends into the disposal as far as the receptacle will allow and it is held in place by the large threaded tightener thingy. There is no washer or metal flange or glue or cement or anything. This is how it was when I installed our new faucet and the water began leaking from the outlet in the disposal. The pipe was too short and thus the leak, or so I thought. Should I apply pvc cement or some sorts or what? Will this stop the leak? Help.

In inches or fractions of an inch...how close to the body of the disposer is that leak?...so everyone is on the same page as to where this leak is?
You mean you do not have a vertical 1 1/2 inch plastic pipe that hangs down out of the side of the diposer that then goes into a 1 1/2 inch PVC trap?

The leak is real close to the threaded part of the disposal, almost like it's coming out of the threaded portion itself.

You must have some kind of disposer that I am not familiar with. All the ones I have ever put in, like ISE's or Emersens or GE's don't have anything threaded coming out of them. Just the flange thing that Chandler was talking about, where two bolts apply pressure to a metal flange that in turn pushes on a rubber gasket at the side of the disposer.
Is this drain coming out that leaks..is it 1/12 inches diameter? What brand of disposer is this and how new?

The brand of disposer is Insinkerator and it is about 4 years old. It is not 1 1/2 inches. Thanks for all of your help. Any other info you can give is appreciated!

What size is it then? I feel like I'm playing charades here. If any others of you posters reading this need help, please say as much as you can and see, from the get-go, regarding your problems, as this helps.

Hi, Just a guess, what does the other end of the pvc pipe go to? how is the other end connected? is it a slip fit? and now for the big queston if it is a slip fit is, it about the same as the other end that hooks the the disposer. If it is then you need a flat or cone type washer.
