Hi Renos,

Whenever my upstairs kitchen sink is being used...the basement kitchen sink has loud gurgling noise and I can't seem to figure out the problem. I believe the upstairs sink is connected to the basement pipes that lead to the main one. Any suggestions to silence or figure out this problem ??? Any info or advice would be great. I'm a novice to reno so bare with me. Thanks.

Sounds like your basement sink is tied into the upstairs drain - and using the same for it's vent.... the siphoning action of the upstairs drain is causing the gurgling in your basement sink trap.....

Thanks thezster,

I guess i'll get a plumber to check it out and see if there is a solution to my mess. I need to put in a double sink in replace of the single one that's there.

You could have a blocked vent pipe.

You could have a narrowing of the inside of the drain/vent pipe so that the upstairs kitchen drain water is occupying almost all the inside of the drain/ vent pipe and not allowing air behind it...and if the downstairs sink is not vented separately, then when all that drain water coming down the near-full vertical pipe draws past the downstairs sink's drain tap in the line, it causes a "venturi effect" and tries pulling water out of the trap of the basement sink....causing the sound you hear

Hi, so instead of trying to figure out the mysterious gurgling, I hired a professional to take a look. What happened is that my pipes were clogged further down past my kitchen pipes. He industrial snaked the pipes and so far its clear. Without seeing if there is further damage to the pipes he just assumed that it was just a clogged. Luckly the job came with a gurantee. Thanks again for all the advice. I'll be back cause now I need to install a 2 sink into a 1 sink setting. Cya
