Hi Everyone!
In the market for a new washer. Trying to decide about a front loader. Found out so far that they last, on average, about 3 years less than a top loader. Cost quite a bit more. Just wondering on the pay back, and wondering if anyone has had problems with water leaking out the front. We have second story laundry so this is a concern. And I'm old-fashioned, so I'm having a hard time justifying the cost, especially for the stupid base that is required. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks!

just bought a maytag he4 set. uses less water, cleans great. soap is more expensive, and wash takes longer. Will do a huge load. Didn't get the optional base. It is optional. Can't see spending that much either. If i get to the point I can't bend over that far, I will build a base. You can't use regular detergent, as it will oversuds, and get behind the front seal, and then it will mildew, which will eventually make your clothes smell when you wash them. It is also a good idea to always leave the door open when not in use, to keep it dry in there. Same reason. Our old set was 12 year old kenmore, and never needed any maint.. Cleaned well, and in half the time as the new, but used alot more water, and didnt have a heater built in. clothes actually came out about the same dryness as the new set. the new dryer takes longer to dry so i don't think i'll see much savings there. Wish i would of kept the old dryer. We did have the new dryer stacked on the washer to save space in the small laundry room. that was cool. Other than being able to clean huge loads, i see no reason to switch from a good top loader, other than the front loader is cool, and the other half wanted it. :) No leaks, no problems, just make sure it is set up right (level) and you should be good. Any questions just ask.
