hi! when i measure the rough-in distance from the wall to the center of the back bolt on my existing toilet (URC 4481/4490), it is 11.5".

do i replace it with a 12" or 10" toilet?? thanks!

Not sure where the 'back bolt' that you refer to on your existing toilet exactly is.

The rough-in dimension is the dimension from the back wall to the center of the soil pipe opening in the floor. Usually the 2 hold-down bolts at floor level are pretty close to the center dimension of the soil pipe.

Have you found anything out yet?

From the finished wall of the bathroom to the center of the hole through the floor should normally be close to 12 inches. There is a little play however because on toilets the bolt holes are slotted so that the bolts that go into the toilet flange can move forward or back a tad.

The toilet that you are going to replace fit up against the wall okay, right? Was the tank pinned against the wall? Can you tell if that is a standard 12 inch toilet, by even comparing with another toilet at a friend or relatives house?
