I have a Whirlpool "Design 2000" washing machine that overflows. That is the only model number I can find on the machine. Fortunately, I was there to catch it. Using the on/off knob did not stop it. I unplugged the electrical cord for the machine, but the water continued to flow. I had to turn off the water to stop it, just as it started to overflow onto the floor. The best I can tell from one other posting is that it is a fill valve and not a water level control. Could you offer advise?

The water fill valve on your washer needs replaced. It's stuck open.

I just did one of these on a commercial Whirlpool 2 weeks ago. Put 2 inches of water on a 20 x 20 area of the basement! I had to shop vac up 21 5-gal pails of water before venturing over to the machine to change out the fill valve. It had busted. It MAY have froze when we had -20 up here.
