I have a Maytag Neptune Washing machine model MAH5500. Is the past week during the spin cycle there is a loud noise like bumping or an out of balance drum. This happens occasionally with large or heavy loads but evens out in about 10 seconds. Lately it does not even with a light load. This is my first foray into repairing a front loader. Could this be a broken spring? Do they even have springs on front loaders like a top loader does? Any help is appreciated.

See if there is alot of play with the basket itself by rocking it... if none.. open door remove 2 scews on left side then 2 on right side... hold up door level and close.. Grab top of outside sides on front panel and pull foward.. now you have access to the shocks... open door again and put back in the 2 hinge screws and you can un and watch underneath...
