I've installed a brand new pedestal sink with an American Standard 4-inch faucet. I have a leak on the pivit rod connection to the tail pipe. It has a ball to swivel the drain ujp and down and a plastic gasket that goes between the ball and the tailpiece. My assumption is this is causing the leak. One think is that the nut to screw this in place is plastic, which obviously doesn't torque as well as metal would.
Here's the link to the faucet, there are PDF files showig the parts.

Can I buy a repair part to fix this? Or can I try a metal nut?

Does the washer insert first or are you putting the washer behind the ball next to the nut?
My Delta faucet did not have a washer and it seems to me that the ball would fit and work better without the washer being next to the hole. Try it under the nut and not inserted in front of the ball. Plastic nut should be fine, make it tight, even a little too tight, it will seat itself and a few pulls up and down on the rod will make the pull even out.
Take care,

But...some pop up assembly rods need the plastic in there in order to make it all get tight. If it is not in there...when the nut is tightened all the way down, the rod is still loose even though you have tightened the nut the whole way. And it will leak.
These whole assemblies are relatively cheap at big box stores and I'd look for a new one that matches yours. They come in a couple varieties, that I have seen, with the larger pivot ball, and the smaller ball.
If you are still not in luck, you may be able to jury-rig a spacer using a nylon washer in it's stead. I have quite the assortment of brass, fiber, rubber and nylon washers I carry with me and have already made this jury rig I speak of, when the factory plastic spacer YOU spoke of, disappears out of rentals, mysteriously. Even a rubber washer will work, but this makes the rod a little 'grabby'. But at least it will work for you for a while.
