I have a GE dryer that has been converted from natural gas to propane. It worked fine for about 6 weeks then stopped heating. I replaced the ignitor and it still won' t heat. I have been told it may be the gas valve. Just wondering if anything electrical may be causing the problem...temp. switch, thermostats, solenoids, etc

You have to remove the access panel and actually report to us exactly what is happening along the way. Does a hot surface ignitor even try to glow? If not, then that alone could be it. These are easy to test. Does it glow and then shut back down without any flame? Does the ignitor glow and you have burner flame for only a short bit and it goes out?

The ignitor does glow. When it first started to not heat; it would ignite, start to heat then quit. It wouldn' t work again until you let it cool down. Now it doesn' t heat at all. The ignitor is new and glows, but no flame??

Hello bubbles. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic.

It is possible one of the two solenoids, located on top of the gas valve. is defective and/or burned out. Which would cause the existing condition. (HSI) Hot Surface Igniter failing to glow at all.

I would suggest replacing the solenoids as a first step repair. May resolve the problem. May also be a defective gas valve but suggest replacing those solenoids first. Likely to solve the problem.

Full step by step instructions are in the dryer sticky note in this forum topic.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs or services. Always check for gas leaks whenever moving the appliance and/or a service or repair includes any connection of a gas part.
