Trying to fit my old toilet with new guts, but can't seem to remove the flush valve seat (hope thats the right part.... the large one that goes through the bottom of the toilet). It has a plastic ring thats too large for any tool i have to loosen it with. The seals were completely worn throughout the entire toilet and i have to replace this part. Is there a special too that is used to remove this with? Its a plastic threaded part and it appears to have plumbers tape under it. (blonde question i know! Sorry! but my toilets now dismantled all over the place and i have two toddlers!)
Thank you so much!

Love it! A credo for the DIYer. For the impaired - the Ark survived, the Titanic .....
Unfortunately, I can't help with your flapper valve nut but I'm sure one of the plumbers on the board will have the answer.

Assume you're trying to remove the large plastic nut holding the flush valve in place?
You should be able to get what is commonly known as a "spud wrench" to do this job. There are versions for only a few dollars availble at hardware stores.

I had a similar situation that you are having For some reason who ever installed the toilet had the nut so tight it wouldnt budge so I held the nut tight with a wrench and kept twisting the fill valve until I had enough space where I could unscrew the nut with my fingers.
