it's a whirlpool 21cuft top freezer. Every once in a while - I believe when the compressor starts up , it makes an hellacious knocking sound that may last up to a minute, usually 15 - 30 sec's. It's sporadic, so my wife was thinking of "taping' the noise, so a repairman would sit around for 5 hours drinking coffee until it kicked in.
Oh , it's been going on for some time - maybe 3-4 years or more. And the fridge/freezer both seem to work fine -
This am, I "worked" on the back panel of the freezer - adding a little styrofoam to 'brace' up the really chinzy panel the covers the cooling coils, since I could easily flex that with my fingers. Naturally no improvement.
I'm thinking it could be low pressure in the system, maybe on the 'high' side - but this is pure speculation. Input appreciated - esp if you have a 'home' cure. Thanks
