Do people with large walk-in master closets still use dressers and armoirs to store clothes? Or do they try to put all of their clothes in the closet/dressing area & quit using a dresser?

It seems that as the distance between the dressers and closets increase in a master suite it would become harder to use both.

All depends on the size of your walk-in closet and its arrangements.
We each have a dresser inside, opposite the clothes poles/hangers with room for dressing. There are organizers out there, higher end, that encorporate both, drawers and hanging capabilites.

Usually there's no need for an armoire with a walk-in
But the need for a dresser would depend on the closet
How big and how it's arranged

Most people use the new walk-in closet for all of their clothing mainly for convenience, as you noted. Some keep one dresser or armoire in the bedroom to store excess or off-season items and then use the bedroom space they gained for a reading nook, wet bar or perhaps a desk or exercise machine.

A closet does not have to be high end to include drawers, hampers and shelves. Many companies, like Closets Central, offer custom closets that you purchase manufacturer direct and then install yourselves in order to realize substantial savings.
