I have a push pull tub stopper like you described earlier however, when I unscrew the top cap there is no place for a screwdriver. There is a rod with what looks like a fused nut on top. I've tried to remove the nut with liquid wrench and vise grips however it won't budge.

I've trying pulling the unit straight out and I've tried unscrewing counterclockwise...now I'm beginning to come unscrewed....Is is possible they're making tub stoppers that can't be removed from the tub side??

Thanks!!

Welcome to the forums! Not sure what type stopper you saw described before, so I will give you a generic synopsis as to what you should encounter. The plate on the front of the tub unscrews with two screws. There is a rod attached to the back of this plate which runs down to a brass (or plastic) plug in the pipe. It is removable by pulling directly up on the plate once it is removed from the tub. You will probably encounter a loop joint about half way down, as it will allow flexing. Once you get this plug up, it will be cruddy. Clean it up and polish it as much as you think you can, and reinstall it. Post back if this wasn't clear or if we can help further.
