I am finishing my basement and looking for some carpet tiles/squares to put over the concrete floor.

It is not going to be really finished, just want a nice area for the kids to play and not spend a fortune on carpet.

I thought tiles/squares might just foot the bill.

Any ideas or recommendations are appreciated...

The only issues i could see is if there are moisture issues in the basements. The tiles squares would be best installed as glued down. The glue may weaken over so many joints. But if dehumidifer is running and there is no preexisiting moisture issues. I would clean/seal subfloor and install away. Some brands of squares that i have seen look seamless when a nice tight install is done.

Thanks!

I found some 36x36 Milliken tiles at a local carpet store on closeout.

The style and design will work quite nicely. The salesman said to just put down 2-sided carpet tape (2 strips per tile) and just lay them down...I will try and avoid using the glue is possible...

I don't have a moisture problem as I have had the tiles just laying down for a couple of days and the are perfectly dry underneath. We have had alot of rain lately also, so I'm pretty confident...

I just laid 24" carpet tiles in my own basement. I had originally used concrete stain, but came into some carpet tiles for free, so i had a go at it. The glue wasn't so bad. Although the glue instructions advised to use a notched trowel to lay down the glue, I used a paint roller with success (on the advice of a "pro"). the stuff stunk (open a window!) but you paint it down, let it cure for 20-30 minutes then start laying. went down fast! I started in the center of the room and did it in four quadrants out from there after marking centerlines down the room (vertically and horizontally).

The end results were great!

Funny...my thinking was the same; create a safe place for the kids to play. my 2 year old son played down there for the first time last night, and had a great time!

Good luck!
