Accessories - Housewares - Finishing Touches - Glass-top octagonal coffee table

It is huge, very light wood (Thomasville), same color rattan bottom shelf.

I need some ideas of how to give it some umph. I have a piece of driftwood but it is a bit too small. Fresh flowers wouldnt work, the room is dark and facing north. And the usual coffee table book ...... naaahh

well, obviously it can't just be anything. it has to be items that work with the decor/theme and reflect your personality. also, depending on the furniture arrangement, you may or may not be able to use something tall. and depending on if there are little kids around, the items may need to be unbreakable. about the only thing i can tell you (since you gave no details or info on the room) is when it comes to accessories, less is more. one strong piece, or 3 items (each of small, medium & large). look in decorating magazines to spark some ideas.

i can comment on the driftwood though.......if the table is light wood, the driftwood was probably too similar and just looked blah. go for something with a little more color & contrast. maybe find an object that would echo another color elsewhere in the room.

My decor is light beige upholstered furniture with one occasional chair beige with butterflies (Thomasville material), a Pottery Barn light-colored rug with larger red and blue flowers, self-sewn curtains of green leaves with red berries (Kaufmann) and, as said before, ligh-colored wood on the tables and media center. One large Norfolk pine, a couple of dark bronze gothic lamps, complementing the table and media center handle hardware and an antique German floor lamp with a large parchment paper shade and dark gold fringe. No children. The table sits between the couch, easy chair, and media center. if I place something too large on the table it might obscure part of the TV. Grrrrr..... :)

I have 2 small kids and I could not find any accessories that would look good and were unbreakable at the same time. My friend sent me a link to a home accessory online store. they are prettier than this picture, they are in different colors, so now I will find various height silk leaves, grasses, etc to put into each shooter.
