I'm finally tired of my aluminum windows and masonite siding on my house. I've had several estimators to my house giving me estimates and I have narrowed it down to these two choices for siding.
Both are the same thickness of .046.
Alside says they will replace the siding if it fades more than 3 Hunter units. Royal says 4 Hunter units.
Both will be backed by 1/4" fan fold. I'm leaving the masonite on for added R-value.
Is one priduct better than another? Will I notice a difference? Alside is $1900 cheaper than the Royal.

All Siding will experience some fading. Specifically, normal weathering is defined as exposure to sunlight and extremes of weather and atmosphere
which will cause any colored surface to gradually fade, chalk, or accumulate dirt or stains. The severity of any condition depends on the geographical location of the building, the cleanliness of the air in the area, and many other influences over which the siding manufacturer has no control.
Manufacturers warrant their product against excess fade beyond normal weathering if caused by a manufacturing defect, and that is reported to the manufacturer in accordance with the warranty provisions.

The bottom line is that the difference between 3 Hunter Units and 4 Hunter Units is relatively negligible and essentially takes very specialized equipment to measure. Along with price their are the aesthetic features (color, grain, etc.).
