Hello,

Our kitchen is tired. About the only decent thing about it is the tile that was laid recently. The cabinets are high quality wood but the the stain is real tired. Our appliances are hodge-podge. We have a stainless refrigerator, black and white stove and a white dishwasher.

We have decided that we are going to paint our cabinets a off-white or cream (not clear on that, just yet) and replace our countertops with a glossy black, granite-look laminate counter top. My question: Does anyone have any ideas on hardware color, sink color or anything additional ideas on how to make everything flow together.

Thanks for your help.

I just saw an HGTV show where they had cream painted cabinets. They used dark bronze period hardware - looked pretty good. They also had all stainless appliances which I would recommend if your fridge is the newest and you can afford to change out the others. The stainless appliance craze will probably last another 7-10 years, until avocado and gold come back. The sink was white but I think stainless could work in your case. If you're hoping to awaken your kitchen you may want to rethink the dark gloss granite laminate - there are many other more distinctive laminates available, or look at a natural or synthetic solid countertop - (again if price is no object)

Photohog - You can get a SS door cover for your dishwasher. You might look for the same for your stove. As posted earlier, stainless is in right now.
I installed cream glazed cabinets and with the stainless appliances, it really brightened the kitchen. We used brushed stainless cabinet hardware that was a pretty good match with the appliances.

You can go stainless with your sink or opt for an enameled cast iron that closely matches your cabinets. If you get stainless, go with the heaviest guage that your budget allows. Low end stainless sinks are more trouble than they are worth. Whatever sink material you decide on, I suggest you consider an undercounter mount. Great convenience and makes cleanup a lot easier.

You might want to reconsider the dark countertop. Once you decide on a cabinet color, put it alongside a bunch of different color countertops. I would look for something that contrasts, but not too dark. If the budget allows, consider natural stone (granite) or one of the manmade products. They're pricey (so is laminate these days) but they last the lifetime of the kitchen and the cost can be recovered in resale value.
