Hi,
I am laying out my plans for remodeling my main bathroom. The house has 1 1/2 baths (the 1/2 bath has no room for a shower or tub) The main bath is a small space like a corridor about 8 feet long with the tub built in the alcove on the side at the end. I want to install a walk-in shower as a personal prefference. I am looking for opinions reguarding the tub. We do not use the tub and I'm weighing the option of removing it, but I am concerned from a resale point of view. Is this still considered a deal breaker when buying a house?
Thanks, Jeff

I can only offer an opinion but it would seem to me that a house with no bathtub would at least bring some limitations to it's appeal. You'd have to hope that you'd find a buyer that would either accept it's absence or the costs and efforts to replace it and also you'd possible encounter buyers who would ask for concessions on price for these reasons.

The realitor would still list it has a full bath when you sell it. If your other bathroom has a tub. I don't think it would mess you up much. Most of my friends and women also seem to preferr showers.
Go for, i say. Do what makes you happy.

Maybe I just learned something. Realtors list 3/4 baths as a full bath if it's the only bathroom? But then fall back to say a 1 3/4 bath house if the second bath has the shower? Seems odd, and untruthful.

Realtors list houses has half bath or full bath ONLY. If you have a bathroom with a bath tub without a shower installed with the tub, it is still listed as a full bath. Same for shower only.
Full Bath: You can poop and wash your body. (tub or shower)
Half Bath: Poop only

I probably use the shower 95% of the time but I would not buy a house that did not have a tub. Sometimes I just want to relax in a nice warm tub of water.

On the selling point, without a doubt, do the tub. 93% of people buying houses today have children. It is very hard to sell a house without a tub.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like the old rule still applies.
