Hi,
I installed solid 3/4" flooring on my landing and solid hardwood treads. They have been filled and sanded to 220. I was able to pick up some Fabulon oil based poly. I have done a fair amount of furniture finishing so I was surprised that the Fabulon instructions recommend 100 grit for between coats sanding. I know flooring is different but I usually use 320 grit or higher on furniture because sometimes I can see the scratches from 220 through the final coat.
I looked in my hardwood finishing book and it recommends a 100 or 120 grit screen so I suppose it's correct.
I have a half sheet RO sander (actually I'll probably hand sand it to be safe)- what would be the finest grit you would recommend on high end work for between coats?

I'm not sure if I've ever used any Fabulon poly but I usually use 120-180 grit before and after the 1st coat and 220 grit thereafter.
After the intial sanding, hand sanding is best for treads and risers. ALWAYS sand with the direction of the grain!!
