I recently let a candle drip onto my coffee table. To remove the wax, I used a thin washcloth and my iron. Unfortunately, I used steam along with heat and now my table has a white cloudy stain on the finish. Coffee table is finished with oak stain. I am pretty sure it has a coat of varnish . PLEASE HELP! This table is only a couple of years old.

As you know by now, the steam penetrated the finish, causing it to turn cloudy. If this piece was factory finished, it's 99% certain the finish is lacquer.

Apply a teaspoon of whatever oil you use for cooking; Rub the area (with the grain) with 0000 steel wool. It's readily available. Wipe clean occasionally to view your progress.

You may have to do the entire top to even the sheen.

and for future reference, the correct way to remove the wax would've been to apply ICE to the wax and gently scrape off the hardened wax with a credit card or plastic spatula.
