Any brand recommendations for porcelain resurfacing kits? I'm aware that this isn't a perfect solution, but I'd like to try anyway.

Thanks.

Just for the fun of it; could you explain your situation...the type of tub, what the wall surround is made of, etc.?

Sure. The tub is porcelain on cast iron (or maybe steel) along an outside tile covered concrete block wall. I'm going to retile then do the resurfacing. Then floor tile. This bathroom could qualify for America's ugliest and I can't stand it anymore. Plus I only have the one bathroom and can't have it all ripped up for a long period of time.

If you're going to re-tile the walls, there could hardly be a better time to replace the tub. IMHO, re-finishing a tub has to be done professionally by a competent person to have any chance at all, and even then it's second fiddle to a factory-fired brand spankin' new bathtub. The tub could be replaced in a day or less.

I'm trying to hold the line on expenses, otherwise I probably would replace the tub. I mentioned in another category that I have access to an inexpensive, new acrylic clawfoot tub from a friend. The advice I got was to keep the porcelain tub over an acrylic replacement. I would have to call in a plumber, which, as we know, is always an expensive proposition.

Also, I have to get a new drainfield dug, so I need to see how much the final cost will be on that. I'm guessing about $3,000, but it could be more.

Any other opinions are welcome.

Thanks.
