I am currently removing my ugly ceramic tiles and will replace with vinyl. There is a metal mesh underneath the tiles. I was wondering if I needed to remove the mesh and everything before I lay the plywood. Can I lay the plywood on top of this mesh stuff? please advise as I am tearing them up as I type.
Thanks, Jazzy

If it were me, I'd use the mesh as a removal aid. Get a pry bar under it and work it up and the tile will come with it. In any case, I'd remove it.

Thanks.... as I was removing I realized that it is easier to remove with the mesh... thanks again.

No I am not kiddin'. I have white glossy ceramic tiles in the kitchen. Needless to say the grout lines are BLACK and around where the radiator I guess they did not know how to tile so they cut little pieces and grouted the heck out of it. Very horrible tiles and not to mention they are very cold underfoot. I just brought the house last year and that was the first thing I had on my renovation list... but I completed the basement, living room, and dining rooms first.
