I have an Aprilaire 550 installed in a 5 year old house which I just bought. It was not hooked up to a water supply, so I got a plumber to do that. The humidifier is installed on the hot air duct, and vents to cold air duct about 12 inches away - connection is level - air then goes down about 3 feet to bottom of duct, turns left, goes through filter and back into furnace. Everything appears to be working well, but there is dampness on the floor beneath the bottom of the cold air duct. It looks like the hot humidified air is cooled, and drops water before returning to the furnace. Could this be the case? I can find no leakage in the unit's water feed or drainage.

Have you removed the blower/filter and see if you see any water?
You do not have enough temp extream in the air to have "rain" in your ductwork.

If its that old check the inside of it. The water panel the nozzle check and clean the distribution tray Pull the front cover off and go over the unit With the furnace on and see if any water gets out of it .
