I just finished lining the new bathrooms linen closet in ceder, I bought the wide white shelves at mendards,, I do not like the look,, is it ok to make shelves out of ceder????? I found some on ebay 5/8" x6"x48"

I assume your white boards are pine?

It is better for the shelves to be sealed so I'd stain and varnish/poly the shelves and cleats to match the cedar - cheaper that way ;) Best to finish the shelves before install.

the shelves are actually the color white the closet board smoothe coated chip board with the plastic edges

Ya, I can see where that would look kinda tacky. Cedar boards would look good but cedar's kind of pricey. Plus you really don't want shelves that aren't sealed - sealing aromic cedar defeats the purpose. Pine can be stained close to the cedar color, then seal with a couple of coats of varnish/poly.
