Hey folks, yet another question and a pre-thank you for all the help.
I am currently finishing my basement and it is just about time for the flooring. We original were goign to do half carpet and half engineered hardwood, but lately we arer thinking all hardwood. Then the wife says that she thinks the floor will be too cold if we do all hardwood, I told her that it will be just a cold with carpet, am I correct?
Thanks

Two things. One) She's right. Carpet and pad make a warmer floor. The pad has enough of an insulating effect to help protect from the cold coming up through the concrete. Two) Are you nuts? Domestic tranquility requires you allow the Queen bee to make the design decisions. You may be the King of your castle, but it's just an honorary position where decorating and design are concerned.

Carpet will be warmer and QUIETER. If you put in a hard surface floor with a (presumably) hard surface ceiling, you'll have reflecting sound waves all over the place, and in a space as small as a basement, that can get very annoying. Game rooms don't tend to be a place to use your quiet voice, so I would call for carpet for the sound attenuation alone.
