I see that my sensor has a "low battery" icon and the system will start beeping nonstop every so often. How can I change the battery by myself? I can't seem to figure out how to get into the sensor box.

What type of sensor? Window?

you say "sensor" what exactly do you mean?
Is it one of the security devices, or the main system?

Umm, what they are asking is it displaying just low battery or is it showing low battery with a zone number (look in your user manual). There is a big difference between a low battery for a wireless transmitter and the main system battery (about 3 pounds actually).

I came across this post through a Google search. I also have an ADT Safewatch Pro 3000 and receive the BAT indicator on panel without reference to zone number indicating the System Battery is low or needs to be replaced. This of course is accompanied by incessant beeping, which gives a light sleeper some problems through the night.
Any information on doing a DIY replacement of the System Battery on this model would be greatly appreciated!

Open the system cabinet, unplug the leads from the old battery, connect the new battery, close the door and enter your code at the keypad as if disarming the system. It may take up to 12 hours for the system to run it's next scheduled battery self test to clear the indicator from the display.
The batteries are available from battery dealers like Interstate, Some Radio Shacks, and many better stocked home centers stock them because they are used in emergency flood lights.

Where to find the system cabinet? I can only see the control touchpad. Please advise. Thanks!

The most common locations are in the master bedroom closet; a utility closet, sometimes in a basement or attic.
The newer the house, the more likely it is in the master closet.

Thank you for the advise so far, it has been very helpful.
I removed the battery (big black block) from the panel as I was getting the BAT alarm and the beeping. However, I checked the voltage of the battery and it shows 14V which is the right voltage for a full charged battery, correct? now my question is; if the battery is still at full charge why I am still getting the alarm and the beeping? could it be that the problem is with the Amp and not with the voltage so I will still need to change the battery for a new one?

You need to test the battery with a load on it. To do that leave the battery connected and disconnect terminal 1 (ac power). Place a volt meter across the keypad red and black terminals. With only the battery connected and not the main power you should still read above 12 volts dc. If the system shuts off or is below 12v dc the battery needs replaced.

Good advise, thank you.
I removed the power and tested the battery while connected to the system. Still got 14 V (Actually I got something close to 15V). and the system kept working while running on batteries for another hour or so.
I decided to connect the power back and remove the battery. It has been 3 days since and the beeping in the middle of the night stopped (thank God). Which makes me think that there is something wrong with the battery anyways. I will get a new one this week and replace it to see if it works. Thoughts?

Most panels i run into charge around 13 - 14vdc . Yours seems a little high but that may still be fine. Depends on how much ac yout transformer is putting out. Ive seen some homes were the electric voltage to the house is a little higher therefore the alarm panel puts out a little higher voltage. Batteries for your system normally last a minimun of 3-5 years so if your battery is old it might not be able to keep up to the 15volt charge. Getting a new battery isnt a bad idea just keep the receipt just in case. And when your sure its fixed put the date on the battery with a marker for maintenance reasons.
