My furnace is a Carrier Model 58pap070-hc about 12 yrs old. Works fine, good heat, no funny noises or smells. When changing the filter I noticed the flames on the burners where orange instead of the usual blue. When only pilot is lit, it burns a steady blue. Note on furnace shows thermocoupler was replaced about 5yrs ago. What is causing the orange flames and how can I fix this??? Thanks.

First would be check the gas psi or W/C. Then check and see if burners venturi are clean and check the air inlets and adjust them. Also when the burners are on tap the side of them with a screw driver some . See if that might clear them up.

Your good ! Tapping with a screw driver took care of the orange flames. Nice and blue now. What causes the orange flames ? Anything to worry about ? Thanks again.

Just dirt in the burner ports is all . In the summer you could go over them with a shop vac . it helps ;) Ed
