Furniture, Wood and Cabinetry Finishing - Melamine on kitchen cabinets - spray?

I would like to paint my kitchen cabinets with a dark melamine paint. Instead of brushing or rolling I would like to spray. What type of sprayer is best airless or air? If air is gravity feed preferred to suction? Will a 1.2 nozzle be large enough for such a thick paint? I plan to wash, sand and prime with shellac primer before the melamine paint.

An airless probably wouldn't be a good choice for 1 set of cabinets especially when diy. HVLP or conventional cup gun will give better control of the paint [especially volume of material]

I've never used one of the gravity feed guns so I can't comment there. Also I've never bothered to learn the tip sizes for conventional spray, just know which of my guns works best for the job at hand.

It is hightly unlikely that you could spray the enamel without thinning [except with airless]

I thought I may have to thin a little and see what happens.

So, I removed all the doors and drawer fronts. I lightly sanded, then primed with a high adhesion primer, and then I sprayed two coats of melamine paint. They look superb.
I hand painted all the carcasses and drawers so I wouldn't have to spray inside. I pained the inside of the cabinets and drawers white, and the facings are a dark brown.
The kitchen project turned out amazing. I am very pleased with the face lift. Thanks for all the tips.

out of curiosity, what sort of sprayer did you end up using?

I used a gravity feed paint sprayer with air. The air was turned down to the minimum required to keep the paint flowing. It resulted in a very nice finish with melamine paint.
