I have 2 rooms side by side where I am putting in oak hardwood floor, 3 inch width and 3/4 thickness. The first room I finished out into the hallway and I have a room right next to it so I put pieces into that room so I could dry fit back to the wall to start nailing forward again. Well I have about 6 boards left until I get to the pieces I laid across.I see I am going to be a 1/4 SHORT. Even though I dry fit to start I guess after 20+ rows in can get off that much. I am wondering what my options are to fix this?? Of course it would have to be at the door entrance but I guess that is where going to happen. I have not finished nailing up the last 6 rows yet and weighing my options to make adjustments before I get there.

Here is a drawing pic of the 2 rooms. Room 1 I have finished and the places in pink I have nailed. Room 2 is done up to the last 6 rows, in pink. The slanted line of wood I layed from the hallway and marked. The orange shows the 1/4 gap I would have.

Any help most appreciated.

Will this be more of the same wood flooring?

One option I can think of , for the "grey" board, remove the 1/4" where the yellow wall intersects ( the one between the two rooms. ) That will let in the 1/4 you need for the big room.

Now, some who you need to releave(sp) the 1/4" on the grey that's in front of the doorway for the other room. This would wind up being from the left hand end of the grey board, to the edge of the yellow wall ( room 2 side.)

How much tongue and groove do you have to work with? Can you take 1/4 off the tongue of one, and 1/4" off the grooved surface of the other?
With "any " luck, the tongue piece is the one in the doorway, nailed down.

If this span isn't very long, a minimal T&G might hold that board in place.
