Rugs, Carpets and Carpeting - Shoe molding - before/after carpet?

Hello all,
I have read it is best to put the base molding down before the carpet. That is already in place. Now do I put the shoe molding (1/4 round) in first or after the carpet? I put it down first in my bedroom and it looks fine but it gets hidden a bit. Also I notice in some old carpets that the ends that go under the shoe molding sometimes starts to come up. It seems that if I put the shoe molding after the carpet I would get a cleaner install and the carpet would not come up at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Genarally shoe moulding isn't used over carpet. Shoe moulds main function is to hide any irregularities where the base and floor meet. If you decide to use shoe mould over carpet, install it after the carpet - don't forget to finish [paint] the shoe mould before installing.

Ah, makes sense. There was shoe molding down with my old carpet I am replacing because there are hard wood floors underneath. I will install the carpet and decide after whether I need the shoe molding.

I plead with the client to remove the shoe molding or ¼ round, when installing carpet.

As said above, it is for hardsurface flooring and to cover the expansion space left around the perimeter

I don't even plead, it's easier to get forgiveness than permission.
