Closets and Home Organization - master closet off bedroom or bathroom?

We are planning an addition for a master suite. Most floor plans I look at have the closets as part of the bathroom, whereas others have the closet opening to the bedroom.

Which is the better way to do it?

I don't just want to consider what we want as we'll probably be selling the place in 2 years.

If you can do it either way, *personally* I would prefer it off the bathroom. That way early morning person can do their whole get-ready routine in a room separate from still-sleeping person and not disturb them. In our case we couldn't do it that way so we made it so the bed is in a little alcove and the main bathing and closet areas face away from the bed so as to reduce waking the sleeping person (with light, etc.) One layout I do not like, however, is when the only way into the bathroom is through the closet.

I would place the closet off of the bedroom in order to keep the bathroom the room where you do not have to disturb someone. If you cannot tie all three together with multiple entrances then keeping the bathroom separate provides the most privacy, in my opinion. I think logcabincook's last sentence is the most compelling, as is the reverse; when the only way into the closet is through the bathroom.

Bandana you have a good point if the toilet is not walled off on it's own. :-)

Bedroom
I don't change in the bathroom, and wouldn't want all that moisture from the shower into my clothes
Perhaps that's why I don't see a lot of closets off baths around here

I may have over the years, I don't recall any off-hand
But I don't deal with a lot of new construction so...

I have seen a few with the closet of a sort of "hall" to the bath
That'd be fine with me (for me personally) too

Bathroom

*Depending on how big it is*. My parent's house has their walk-in-closet in the bathroom. It's pretty awesome and huge. My logic is if you're showering or bathing (and the blinds are closed), why not, while you're at it...change/put some clothes on? It beats showering/bathing, then having to walk ALL the way to your room for clothes(all right, it's not that far, but..), making sure the blinds are closed and if they're not, close them, then make sure your bedroom door is closed and then change in the bedroom....?

I bought one of the new homes books at Lowes to get ideas for floor plans for master suites. A great number of them have doors connecting the master bedroom and bath.

At this point we're leaning towards making a short hall off the master bedroom that walks by the master closet on the way to the master bath because we like the idea of separating the bathroom sounds in case one of us is still trying to sleep.
