Can water based polyurethane be applied over top of an aged oil varnish finish? The original finish is 25 years old, and I just want to freshen, but don't want to have to strip.

I've heard that it can providing the old surface is sanded well. IMO it is better to stick with oil base unless your completely refinishing.
