Hi,
Been spending a lot of time reading this forum and enjoying the research. Our home is a duplex 2,286 sq ft. 2 sty home. Has a 1989 York heat pump squeaking out heat (we bought the place 6 mos ago). It has dlb pane wooden windows.
We're finally in the shopping mode and called in our first salesman.
Company sells both Lennox and Trane.
He is rec. the Lennox due to the physical size of the unit. He mentioned the Trane would sit much higher in the area outside our home and also added it was $850 more then the Lennox.
Rec'vd two quotes for both the XP16 and XP19 HP.
Both included the inside unit CB31MV, Aprilaire, PMAC 20C HE Media Air Cleaner, all coils, outside electrical box, new outside pad (gravel w/ gray plastic "carton" to sit on?) and Honeywell Vision Pro thermostat.
He rec. a 3 ton unit.
I've read a lot about some HVAC contractors mis-matching the size HP to the home. With the info I've supplied does 3 ton sound right? Salesman spent time looking over existing unit and our electric panel.
Is an Aprilaire a good payback on this system?
Does anyone have experience with Lennox's PMAC 20C HE Media Air Cleaners? I was looking at the electrostatic air cleaner - my husband thought the UV light on the PMAC was unnecessary just to get dust out of the system.
Salesman tooted it comes with a MERV 10 filter and the new MERV 16 was due out very soon. Said we only needed replace the filter once a year which would cost $50....
I've been reading off this forum and this this .pdf list for energy efficient heat pumps:
http://www.aceee.org/consumerguide/hp.pdf
I will be calling on 2 other installers for their quotes. I really don't have an opinion on the Lennox vs the Trane - I guess its like comparing a Honda to a Toyota. Both seem like good companies.
If someone has more to add or reqst on this first quote - would appreciate any experienced input, thanks!
....feel like my cash is flowing out of my wallet with this Arctic blast we just got hit with...

Warranty: Lennox XP19 is 10 yr on the compressor and all components,
XP16 is 10 yr on the compressor and 5yr on all components.
Trane XL16i/ XL19i does the 10 yr identical to the XP19.
Warranty is part of the equation but again I am confident these HP from both mfr are well made.

Make sure you get 3 bid here on the job.

Yes but for sure get the 700.
MERV 10 filter and the new MERV 16 was due out very soon.
We try to get people to not go very a MERV 5. They dont let the air through. Check out the new Trane filter they work great.
If you will be in the home for 10 years go for the good stuff. Id not go over a Trane XL15i with a V /S blower. This way you can get a 10 year warranty on the whole thing Stay with the R22 it will be around till 2030. The R410a cost to much and if you have a leak the whole freon has to be pulled out and all new put in.
Honeywell Vision Pro thermostat. Id for get this. With a heat pump we try to get the people to set the tstat and for get it.
My .02 cents ;)
