Im going to paint my bedroom in the house we just bought. I picked out a nice shade of green from my quilt on my bed. The room right now is all blotchy in blue green and purple colors (all 4 walls).

My question is I only want to paint 2 of the walls with the new green color and will be painting the other 2 either a white or very light cream color. Which 2 walls do I paint the green color on? The wall the bed is on and the opposite one, or the wall the window is on and the one opposite of that?

Im thinking its the bed wall and the opposite one which is the one the door is on but cant remember if the bed wall is the accent wall one u are to paint.

Im also scraping the purple paint off the baseboard trim to get the beautiful wood back and varnishing it. The paint on the walls looks like it was done over wall paper that seems still in good condition.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I recently did our bedroom with the same colors basically. I did a dark green on two walls and a neutral beige on the others. I choose the wall behind the bed and the one directly to its left. I did this left wall because it had the entry door and also bifold doors for the closet it on. All doors and trim in the room are white and the dark green really sets that wall off. I don't think there is any hard and fast rule on which walls you have to paint, it is your personal preference. I had matched the green to sheets we had so I temporarily hung them on different walls to see the effect.

of doing (sounds like our bedrooms are the same lol). My door to the room and on same wall has the bi-fold door for the closet also but is directly across from the wall the bed is up against, lol. So i wasnt sure if i should do the big wall to the left or the one the window is on or the one with the door.

Thats kind of my delema, i want to do the one directly across from the bed (one with the doors) but not sure if it will look stupid, most people ive talked to did theirs on the adjoining wall to match the head of the bed wall. The big wall with nothing the creamy color and the one directly across that one with the window the same color..not sure if it would look odd doing it that way.

So you really like how it turned out? I think the light creamy color will go really nice with the green i got..its called village maze..its kind of a creamy looking green itself.

you should really only do one wall. the ACCENT wall. if you do 2 walls, you've split the room in half, and then where is the accent??? you've confused the eye. have a reason for doing this. if an all-cream room would be boring & you want a splash (ie ACCENT) of color, and if the quilt & bed would look better up against a green wall, then that's the wall (one wall) to paint (plus the focal point of a bedroom should be the bed).

another thought: if, perhaps, your window treatment (drapery) would look better against a green wall, then that would be a good reason to do the window wall. but then you'd have 2 walls, which is back to having 2 focal points. in that case, i would say do all the walls green. it would make the room seem bigger than doing 2 and 2. switching the colors of walls creates a line of contrast & chops the room up, which makes it seem smaller.

one "rule" of decorating is: usually anything looks better when it's done in odd numbers, and 4 walls of a room qualify. do 1 in the accent color and 3 in the more neutral color. or do them all the same.

but, of course, you can do whatever you want.

thanks so much for that info. I understand what you are saying and my wall with the window has beautiful long white curtains so that would look better the darker color on that wall. I figured the wall the bed was up against was the accent wall but wasnt positive. So ill probably do the whole room in the green.

Thanks for the help ladies.
