I am about the start laying engineered hardwood flooring and want to make sure that I lay the first rows straight and square. I am not concerned about the doing this myself but just want to make sure that I get off on the right foot. So......how do you lay a straight chalk line? Obviously, I am not a pro but a total do it yourselfer.

Thank you.

You should go off the wall. Using spacing blocks, put them along the first wall you are laying the flooring. The wall itself should be straight and plumb.

I never start directly off a wall. I rack several rows of wood to get an measurement how wide, so many boards are when put together. Then I go to each end of the room and make a mark.check the other direction to be sure the room isn'r wider on one side then the other. Pop my line and work from the line to the wall. Then turn around and work across the room.
