Hi - We're building a small home studio (room within a room) in NYC. Noise is a big issue because we record a lot of layered acoustic material. The air conditioning unit recommended to us is the Trane XB13C 1.5 ton packaged unit, 18,000btu. It won't fit through the door to get into the back yard! And, we're concerned about the compressor noise below our neighbor's window. Is there a comparable, smaller quiet unit? We're reluctant to move to a split system for fear that any fan noise is too much.
Very much appreciate advice.

being involved with studio before you need to go with the package unit! The unit needs to be on springs, not just isolation pads. All duct needs to be lined and have sound attenuators. I hope you have an engineer to over see this project. Can you get the unit in the back with a crane?

You would really need to describe the layout of your house in detail to be able to offer any suggestions.

In order to reduce noise in a space you need to be able to mount the package unit or evaporator coil a distance from the conditioned area.
You will not find a package unit of similar capacity that will be much smaller than that Trane unit.

Thank you for your replies. We've decided to go to a split system, but to do duct work to silence the fans in the handlers.

Use the fiberglass duct board for all your duct work there. For sure get a V/S blower coil unit .
