I just read advice to another member whose flange is too low with tile. It was recommended that the best way to do it would be to reset the flange on top of the tile rather than use a flange extender. I removed the four screws holding the flange. When I try to remove the the connection below (an immediate 90) all seems to move with it, and there's not a lot of clearance. What is the recommended procedure at this point? Thanks.

How far is the flange below the level of the tile. If its not to bad you can use a flange extender or a extra thick or second wax ring. Yes having the flange on top of the tile is best but if its a little below the surface of the tile you still have these options.

Looks like the flange will 3/8" (maybe 1/2" tops) below the tile. Should I just use a flange extender?

Oh, and btw, what is the best height for the flange to be above the tile? Thanks.

The bottom of the flange should rest on the tile. 3/8" you could either use a larger or second wax ring or you could use a flange extender. Either one should work. I personally like the wax ring idea better. Flange extenders in my experience have a tendancy to leak.
I havent used these things but have heard that they work real good also. See link

Confused. If I use an extender or a second wax ring, how will the flange sit on the tile. I'm having trouble picturing that.

If you use either of those two, the flange will not sit on the tile, however it will still work fine. To get the flange to sit on the tile, you'll have to replace the flange. Its not necessary though as the extra wax ring or the flange extender will work fine.
