I live in Minnesota and have central air, but no manual or instructions.
I have heard that some units have an electric heater to prevent damage if you start them when they are too cold.
If this is the case, is there any damage if I shut of my power to the unit for the winter? I don't know if I have a heater and am not going to go out and find out when it is below zero. If there is a heater that is not needed now, it does not makes sense to let it have power.

Hey Dick,
If your unit is about 10 years or newer, chance are you don't have it.
You are safe to turn it off.. I always shut mine down, and advise others to do it so that way you don't turn it on by mistake.
When come spring, I turn it back on when I remove the top.
Ready for a nice cool snap this weekend? :-)

It looks like it is newer than 10 years old judging by the plate info, but that is a guess at times.
I am ready, but it does not seem like it will be as cold as they said it would be (-10 minimum).
Before the Super Bowl, I have to take an 75 year old friend down to the river for his water skiing group's outing. This won't take too long so I should be able to make the kick-off.
Thanks for the assurance.

Skiing in the Mississippi River.
They have done it every New Years Day for the past 20 or 25 years. I heard they were going to add another date.
No jumping because no ramp is available. They will just ski and probably not even get wet unless they someone does something stupid. The suits give them a lot of protection for the short time.
I was told they only use outboards and squirt the lower units full after they run the water out. Inboards are too tricky in the cold.

They must do it near the Ford dam, or some other dams with open water?
I've seen clips on the news about the water sking or jumps in the cold water... Ughh.. not for me!

I take it they dont barefoot then.
On that AC for sure you can turn it off. like then and now on some units we get a sticker with them to go on the electric panel. It will say TURN POWER TO THE AC ON 24HR BEFORE RUNNING THE AC.
